Exposition of the ground floorThe Botanical Museum acquaints the visitors with the vegetation of different regions of the Earth, the evolutionary history of the plants, and the place of plants in human life. Unlike many botanical expositions of the natural history museums, there are very few plaster casts in the Botanical Museum: the most of its exhibits are the natural plant parts (wood samples, fruits and seeds, herbaria, fossil plants, the artifacts made of plants) taken from its extensive collections. The Botanical Museum is a neighbor (but not a department) of the Botanical Garden with its rich collections of living plants. Expositions of the Museum and of the Garden are mutually complementary; they show different aspects of the plant life and diversity. Expositions of the Botanical Museum are located on three floors. The ground floor exposition is dedicated to the history of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. On the first floor there are the expositions “Evolution of plant world” and “Plants and man” as well as a hall for temporary exhibitions. The Dendrological gallery is located on the flight of stairs between 1st and 2nd floors. The exposition “Vegetation of the Earth” is on the second floor.
