1976 - graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Soil Science of the Leningrad State University.
1987 – defended the PhD (=Candidate of biological sciences) thesis “Seed structure of the  Orobanchaceae Vent. of the USSR flora”. Scientific advisor: Prof. E.S. Teryokhin
2005 – defended the DSc (= Doctor of biological sciences) thesis “Comparative carpology of the family Urticaceae Juss. in the connection of its systematics and phylogenetics”

 Main fields of interest: comparative and evolutionary morphology of fruits and seeds.

Current research: Analysis of the structural diversity of fruits and seeds within the order Urticales in the context of their taxonomy and phylogenetics.
