Abstract
The data on the finding of the 9 moss species new for the Franz Joseph Land Archipelago, collected from Kane, Hayes, Alger, Smith, Big Etherege's, Bell, Hooker and Maybel islands of the Franz Joseph Land Archipelago during the complex expedition of the «Open Ocean: Arctic Archipelagos — 2016» («О2А2-2016») are presented. Calliergon megalophyllum, Campylium protensum and Drepanocladus aduncus were firstly recorded for the polar deserts of the northern hemisphere. The records of these species in the archipelago change the notion on the northern limits of their ranges. Mosses are recorded for the first time for Kane, Alger, Li-Smith, Big Etherege's and Bell islands. The ecological characteristics of the habitats and distribution of species are provided. The recommendations for protection of newly found rare species are given.
