The paper characterizes a new association, Pedicularo lapponicae—Salicetum lanatae ass. nov., distinguished by the floristic criteria and referred to the alliance Arcto erytrocarpae-Salicion all. nov. which comprises eutrophic willow shrub communities of Chukotka and Alaska. The association is described fr om the middle reaches of the Palyavaam R., the area located in the fringe, rather dissected part of the Chukotka Plateau. The vegetation of this area is more typical of the southern than of the northern hypoarctic tundras in its general outlook and life-form composition. The Pedicularo lapponicae—Salicetum lanatae communities represent the impoverished and more moistened variants of the eutrophic willow thickets from the eastern part of the Chukotka Peninsula wh ere the Paleozoic carbonate outcrops are present. Communities similar in their floristic composition are probable to be met in the other parts of the Arctic, but the center of their distribution ranges is undoubtedly bound to the montane areas of Beringian Chukotka.
